The former City Council Speaker does not want 'an unqualified lesbian' to be a governor after the 'Sex and the City' star previously opposed her candidacy.

AceShowbiz - Cynthia Nixon has another person be added to her list of haters. One day after the actress announced she would challenge the 2-term incumbent Governor, Andrew Cuomo, in September's Democratic primary, Christine Quinn called her an "unqualified lesbian" in an interview with New York Post that was published on Tuesday, March 20.
In the interview, the former City Council speaker said, "Cynthia Nixon was opposed to having a qualified lesbian become mayor of New York City. Now she wants to be an unqualified lesbian to be the governor of New York," Christine said. "You have to be qualified and have experience. She isn't qualified to be the governor."
She added, "She's an accomplished actress, a supporter of political causes and that's a good thing. Participating in rallies is important. But she's never run an organization."
To Christine's barbs of her being an unqualified lesbian, Cynthia said that the race is not about "her being a lesbian and my being a lesbian." Instead, she was rather concerned about "the corruption in Albany. It's time for an outsider. I'm not an Albany insider."
After her previous comment in the interview was published, Christine took to Twitter to clarify them in a series of tweets. She wrote, "To be clear, Cynthia Nixon's identity has no bearing on her candidacy and it was not my intention to suggest it did. I want to be clear about that. I would never, EVER, criticize someone because of their identity. 1/4."

In the second post, she wrote, "I've experienced it time and time again, and would never support it or condone it. As a lesbian who ran one of the most high profile races in the country, i know what that's like. And I know it's imperative that we encourage more members of our community to run for office. 2/4."

She added, "Cynthia Nixon aggressively opposed my candidacy in New York despite my qualifications for the office and despite my strong progressive credentials. I was attempting to make a comparison between the two of us. 3/4."

She continued to explain the point of her comment, "The real point I am trying to make is that qualifications matter and records matter. I do not believe she has the qualifications or the record. 4/4."

People then commented on Christine's clarification on Twitter. One user said, "You literally called her an 'unqualified lesbian'....." Another person even said that, although Christine claimed she did not criticize someone over identity, Christine reduced Cynthia's candidacy to LGBT identity. The user wrote, "the real problem, which this response doesn't address, is that you reduced her entire candidacy to her LGBT identity, just as @RepSeanMaloney did earlier. this campaign is about much more than that." One person added, "I read Sean Maloney's press release and agree. It certainly sounded like they'd decided to marginalize Cynthia Nixon as some kind of gay niche candidate by intentionally ignoring her public school activism."
In 2013, Cynthia told The New York Times that she and Christine did not have much in common besides their belief in gay rights. She said, "I've got to say, I'm not anti-Chris Quinn. I worked alongside her in the marriage fight, and I believe she was incredibly eloquent and incredibly effective. But apart from that particular gay issue, I don't see a lot of stuff where I line up with her. I think it's a sign of progress. It's like the smoke has cleared in some way and gays, blacks, Caucasians and everybody is able to see beyond the person that might look like them, and go more for the person's voting record or the person's plan for the city."
On the other hand, Cynthia's "Sex and the City" co-star Kristin Davis took to Twitter to say that she is so proud of Cynthia's care of education. She said, "I am so proud of @CynthiaNixon , no one cares more than she does about EVERY person getting a fair change and a good education. I know that she would be an excellent Governor !"

Kristin also said that she would support her to run for New York governor. She wrote, "Join me in supporting Cynthia Nixon via @actblue actb.lu/p/cynthiany?ab I'm excited to support someone I have know for 20 years to be one of the most intelligent and caring people in my life!"
