James Gunn Reminds 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Fans Groot Is Dead and the Internet Can't Handle It

The 'Guardians of the Galaxy' director clearly states the fact when a question about Groot's mortality is brought up in a debate about whether it would be better to save a Porg or Groot.

AceShowbiz - In case you forget, James Gunn wants to remind everyone that Groot is dead. The "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" director took to Twitter on Tuesday, February 27 to clearly state the fact.

It all started with a question about whether it would be better to save the life of a Porg from "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" or Groot if someone is forced to choose in a hypothetical situation. Gunn, of course, would choose to save Groot, while ET's Ash Crossan argued in favor of the Porg because Groot could simply regenerate.

Responding to Crossan's statement, Gunn replied, "First Groot is dead. Baby Groot is his son," sending fans into a grieving state once again.

Some of the shocked Twitter users wrote such things like "Oh wow, thats a new one! Will we get any of that referenced in film? Is that why Baby Groots personality is so different from 'first' Groot?", "that does explain the angsty teen stinger, he *is* an angsty teen...," and "Great, now I have to go home and tell my three year old son that Groot is Dead."

This is actually not the first time Gunn confirmed that Groot is dead. He wrote on his Facebook page last September that "Groot is dead" and explained that while Baby Groot is a "little glob" that came out of Groot's decaying body, he doesn't have any of his father's memories.

"Although I don't necessarily think it's obvious in Vol. 1, it's important to say that if you exploded and a little glob of you started growing into a baby, I would not assume that baby was you," he said in the lengthy post. "I do think it's more obvious in Vol. 2, as Baby Groot has a different personality than Groot, none of his memories, and is much, much dumber."

Baby Groot and the whole Guardians of the Galaxy crew will return to the big screen in "Avengers: Infinity War", which is scheduled to hit theaters across the nation on May 4. They will join other Marvel's superheroes, such as Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, the Hulk, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man and Black Panther, in the film directed by Anthony and Joe Russo.
