The former wrestler plays a primatologist named Davis Okoye who keeps people at a distance but shares an unshakable bond with an extraordinarily intelligent, albino silverback gorilla named George.

AceShowbiz - A new trailer for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's "Rampage" has been unveiled by Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema ahead of the film release this spring. While the previous trailers introduced fans to George, a silverback gorilla Johnson's character has been friends with, the new footage shows how the unlikely pair unite to save the world from terrifying, monstrous creatures.

Dubbed an animal-loving hero who is the world's only hope, Johnson's primatologist character, Davis Okoye, can be seen being pitted against not just one, but two genetically-transformed crocodile and wolf who wreak havoc across Chicago. In order to defeat the "other Project Rampage monsters," Okoye will team up with his best friend George the Ape who, near the end of the trailer, turns black.

The nearly two-and-a-half-minute video also offers a glimpse at Malin Akerman's Claire Wyden, who is responsible for the infection and mutation of George, as well as Ralph the flying wolf and a godzilla-like crocodile called Lizzie, with the mutagenic serum. Naomie Harris's genetic engineer character, Kate Caldwell, is also seen accompanying David as he is trying to solve the mystery surrounding the said serum.

Set to hit U.S. theaters on April 20, "Rampage" follows primatologist Davis Okoye, a man who keeps people at a distance, as he shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, albino silverback gorilla who has been in his care most of its life. But a mysterious genetic experiment mutates this once gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size.

To make matters worse, it's soon discovered that a wolf (Ralph) and crocodile (Lizzie) have gone under similar changes. As these newly created apex predators battle each other for supremacy and tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote and fight his way through the ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe, but also to save the fearsome beast that was once his friend.

Also starring in the upcoming video game-based movie are Joe Manganiello as Burke, the leader of a private military group, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Agent Russell, a government agent who works for an agency called OGA, and Urijah Faber as a possible henchman of Claire. Other cast members include Jake Lacy, Marley Shelton, P.J. Byrne, Jack Quaid, Matt Gerald and Breanne Hill.
