"Solo: A Star Wars Story" is billed as an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga's most unlikely heroes.

Alden Ehrenreich is cast as young Han Solo, with Joonas Suotamo reprising his "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" role as Chewbacca. Other actors starring in the "Star Wars" prequel are Thandie Newton, Paul Bettany, Warwick Davis, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Ian Kenny among others.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were initially tapped to direct the movie, but the pair left the project in June after reportedly being fired over "creative differences" with Lucasfilm. Ron Howard later took over the directing duty and allegedly had to reshoot "nearly all" of the film, doubling its budget. Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan wrote the script.
