The upcoming midseason premiere of the eighth season of the hit AMC series is set to run for 82 minutes instead of the standard 60 minutes.

AceShowbiz - The upcoming season 8 midseason premiere of "The Walking Dead" will be a send-off episode for Carl (Chandler Riggs). The young Grimes, who has been on the hit AMC series since its pilot, is poised to bid farewell to fans after it was revealed that he was bitten by a walker in the shocking midseason finale.

And to give him a final tribute, the series will extend the season 8 midseason premiere. The upcoming episode is set to run for 82 minutes instead of the standard 60 minutes. The title for the midseason premiere of "The Walking Dead" season 8 has yet to be revealed.

Previously, "The Walking Dead" unearthed several new photos from the upcoming midseason premiere which might reveal Carl's last moments. The teenage son of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) was seen lying down in bed with his father and Michonne (Danai Gurira) looking after him. In another photo, Carl was featured writing something on his journal. The photo, however, was seemingly taken during a flashback scene as he sat comfortably in a house in Alexandria.

The death of Carl sparked outrage among fans of the zombie apocalypse drama. Some fans were even petitioning for showrunner Scott Gimple to be fired. The summary of the petition noted that Gimple "gae no explination[sic] as to why Chandler was killed other than that it was because of 'the story,' and that it had nothing to do with personal issue but many speculate that the claim is false."

Another reason why fans were mad over Carl's death was because in the comics, the character remains a major figure. Looking at how things are going in the comics, many assume that Carl will take over leadership duties from his dad, and killing him off on the series definitely didn't sit well with fans.

"The Walking Dead" returns on February 25 at 9 P.M. on AMC.
