'Venom': Your First Look at Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock Is Here!

Sony has unearthed the first official still from the movie, featuring the Oscar nominee dressed as reporter Eddie Brock.

AceShowbiz - The first official still from Sony's "Venom (2018)" has been released by the studio. The image, making its way out via IGN, offers fans the first look at Tom Hardy as reporter Eddie Brock. The Oscar-nominated actor is dressed in full reporter costume instead of his symbiote costume, with him holding a notebook.

The photo comes along with footage from a panel the film was featured in at Brazil Comic-Con last month. "We wanna be as true as possible to the comics with our film, but our story is primarily based on the Lethal Protector and The Planet of the Symbiotes books," director Ruben Fleischer told the crowd in a video statement direct from the film's San Francisco set.

"Venom: Lethal Protector" was a limited series in 1993 written by David Michelinie in collaboration with artist Mark Bagley. Brock moves from New York to San Francisco where he's reinvented as more of antihero instead of a Spider-Man villain. "Planet of the Symbiotes", meanwhile, was a 1995 story focusing on Brock fighting an army of invading symbiotes -- a symbiote being the living alien substance that takes over Brock's body and transforms him into the vicious wall-crawler.

Back to the photo, despite it looking boring, it actually gives more clues about the film. Aside from revealing that Hardy's Brock is working as a reporter, it shows a series of questions written on the page of the notebook he holds, such as "So how exactly does the Life Foundation go about testing its pharmaceuticals?" and "What about the allegations your empire is built on?" In the comics, Brock is depicted as a notable columnist for The Daily Globe paper before a series of events transforms him into Spider-Man's enemy.

Fleischer is directing "Venom" from a script written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. "I can promise you badass action, Venom's dark humor," Fleischer told the crowd during the Comic-Con. The helmer added, "I can also promise you an absolutely stunning performance by Tom Hardy."

Speaking of his character, which was previously portrayed by Topher Grace in Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man 3", Hardy said, "I just wanted to say that I give you my word of honor that I'm going to [do] everything I can to deliver the best Venom that I possibly can muster."

Hardy stars opposite Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed and Scott Haze among others in the upcoming film, which is due out in theaters across the nation on October 5.
