Just two days after returning from holiday hiatus, the 'Big Bang Theory' prequel has been picked up for a sophomore season on CBS.

AceShowbiz - CBS has announced that it has picked up "Young Sheldon" for a second season. The network handed out the renewal for the "The Big Bang Theory" prequel ahead of its Television Critics Association presentation on Saturday, January 6.

" 'Young Sheldon' has made a huge impact on our schedule in the short time it’s been on the air," CBS President Kelly Kahl said in a statement. "While the show's DNA is clearly rooted in 'The Big Bang Theory', 'Young Sheldon' has staked out its own place in the TV universe with a unique creative tone, brilliant writing and a gifted multi-generational cast. We can't wait to see Chuck [Chuck Lorre], Steve [Steve Molaro], Jim [Jim Parsons] and Todd's [Todd Spiewak] vision for how the Cooper family deals with Sheldon growing a year older…and smarter."

The series shared the exciting news on its official Twitter account. "We couldn't be happier to announce that #YoungSheldon has been renewed for Season 2! 🎉 Thank you for tuning in every week and helping make Young Sheldon TV's #1 new comedy," it wrote.
