Alongside the premiere date announcement, Syfy unearths a slew of first-look photos of the upcoming series. One of the photos features Seg-El's (Cameron Cuffe) grandfather Val-El. Played by Ian McElhinney ("Game of Thrones"), the character is seen donning a blue-and-red costume, which quite resembles Superman's.
Val-El is "a rogue genius who believes that space exploration is a basic form of self-defense, and he has tried, without success, to warn the Kryptonian elite about the arrival of an ancient threat." Also featured in the photo are Seg-El's mother Charys El (Paula Malcomson), father and an apparent young version of Seg-El.
Another photo sees Seg-El, the grandfather of Kal-El (Superman), looking stern while standing before two other characters. He dons a black outfit, but unlike the one worn by Val-El, it doesn't have a cape.
Set two generations before the destruction of Superman's home planet, "Krypton" follows Seg-El in his attempts to bring order to the House of El and his planet. He doesn't have much time as an Earth-based time traveler, Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos), warns him that "he's under the clock to save his beloved world from chaos."
The series will feature a slew of DC Comics characters such as Doomsday, Hawkgirl and Brainiac a.k.a. Vril Dox, the latter of which will be portrayed by Blake Ritson.
"Krypton" hails from Warner Horizon Scripted Television and is executive produced by David S. Goyer ("Man of Steel", "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "The Dark Knight" trilogy).
