Fuller and Green reportedly have parted ways with the Starz drama due to disagreement over the budget for the second season.

AceShowbiz - "American Gods" season 2 is in limbo. The show is losing its showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green, who developed the project from scratch based on Neil Gaiman's contemporary fantasy novel that has won Hugo and Nebula Awards.

According to Variety which first reported the news, Fuller and Green parted ways with the Starz drama after clashing with producer FremantleMedia over budget and creative direction for the second season of the series. The two reportedly were pushing for an increase to the series' budget for the upcoming season. Sources close to the production said the budget for the fantasy series was already nearly $10 million per episode.

No replacement is announced as of now as search for new showrunner is still underway. Deadline reports that more than half of the scripts for season 2 have been written. Gaiman could come on board as a co-showrunner, but that's still uncertain since he's also working on Amazon and BBC Two's miniseries "Good Omens" based on his book "Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch" which he co-wrote with Terry Pratchett.

Fuller previously also exited CBS All Access' "Star Trek: Discovery" amid multiple production delays. He, however, will be kept busy as he has been working on Apple's "Amazing Stories". As for Green, he is shepherding Netflix's drama "Raising Dion" and another TV series project in the works.

"American Gods" was renewed for a second season in May by Starz, which was a no-brainer decision considering the largely positive reviews received by the series and its modest ratings. Fuller and Green are also executive producers along with Craig Cegielski, Stefanie Berk, David Slade, Adam Kane and Gaiman.

"American Gods" follows Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle), an ex-con who becomes bodyguard for Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane), a con man but in reality one of the older gods who travels across America to gather American manifestations of the Old Gods of ancient mythology to prepare for a battle against the New American Gods. The second season is slated to premiere in mid-2018.
