Bruno was also presented with Song of the Year Award for his other hit song "That's What I Like", defeating DJ Khaled and Khalid.

Another name who walked away with more than one award was SZA. Despite being a rookie, the 28-year-old songstress won Best R&B/Soul Female Artist after beating out Kehlani and Mary J. Blige. SZA also brought home Best New Artist Award.

Another rookie who bagged an award at the event was Cardi B. The Bronx raptress was presented with Rhythm & Bars Award for her popular debut song "Bodak Yellow". She defeated big names such as Khaled, French Montana and Kendrick Lamar. Khaled, meanwhile, shared Best Collaboration Award with Rihanna and Bryson Tiller for their collaboration "Wild Thoughts".

Meanwhile, Solange Knowles, who was expected to be the biggest winner of the show, only managed to nab one award despite leading the nominations with seven categories. The Texas native notched The Ashford & Simpson Songwriter's Award for her song "Cranes in the Sky".

Also at the event, Toni Braxton was honored with the Don Cornelius Legend Award. During her acceptance speech, Tony gave some advice to new singers. "All the new artists, when you're feeling low and you need that little bit of energy to get you through, the negative and positive energy is all a part of the journey," she said.
