A new report suggests that the hit tvN drama is currently in the middle of preparations for a sophomore season, which is scheduled to air in the second half of 2018.

AceShowbiz - There has been a lot of talks about another season of tvN's hit crime drama "Signal" after it aired its final episode on March 12, 2016. Fans of the South Korean drama, which starred Lee Je Hoon, Kim Hye Soo and Cho Jin Woong, are hoping that the network and Studio Dragon, the production company behind the drama, will be making a sophomore season as "Signal" ended on a thrilling cliffhanger.

Rumors about a possible second season have been swirling for the past few months, with a new report suggesting that "Signal" is currently in the middle of preparations for the rumored upcoming season. It's also said that it is scheduled to air in the second half of 2018. However, the cast and crew have yet to confirm anything.

"We're still in the consideration process on whether to have a second season or not," a representative for Studio Dragon says in a statement. "Nothing has been decided yet."

Airing in 2016, "Signal" was inspired by real life serial murders which occurred in the South Korean city of Hwaseong between September 15, 1986 and April 3, 1991. The 16-episode drama follows Lee Je Hoon's Park Hae Young, a cold case profiler from 2015, who finds a mysterious walkie talkie which allows him to communicate with a detective (Cho Jin Woong) in the year 2000. With the power of fore and hindsight, the two not only solve crimes but also prevent them from ever taking place. However, a long-standing murder case is closer to home than either realizes.

The drama earned critical acclaim for its outstanding storyline and cinematography as well as stellar performance by the cast. "Signal" reached 13.4 percent in viewership ratings and quickly became a national phenomenon.

In addition to winnning Best Drama award at the 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards, the series earned Kim Hye Soo a Best Actress (TV) award at the award-giving event. Writer Kim Eun-Hee also snagged several awards, including Drama Writer of the Year at the 2017 Brand of the Year Awards, Best Screenplay (TV) at the 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards and Best Writer at the 5th APAN Star Awards.
