Inspired by Tom Petty, rock bands Foo Fighters and Queen of the Stone Age gather at Cal Jam 17 and slay the stage to pay tribute to the late Tom Petty and Las Vegas shooting victims.

AceShowbiz - It has been a tough week for the U.S. Not only they experienced a horrible mass shooting in Las Vegas on October 1, but they also lost eminent musician Tom Petty on the next day. On Saturday, October 7, many musicians gathered and performed at Cal Jam 17 in San Bernardino, California to pay tribute to the deceased Tom Petty and the shooting victims. Foo Fighters and Queen of the Stone Age were among the list of the performers.

During Queen of the Stone Age's performance, the band's founder Josh Homme spotted a sign among the crowd and asked for it to be passed up. There were words on the sign that read, "Vegas Strong" on the front and a list of the 58 people that were killed in the mass shooting on the back. He then raised the sign for everyone to see and told the audience, "We are everything when we are together. Let's have the f***ing time of our lives." After that, the band continued with their next song entitled "Smooth Sailing".

Meanwhile, Foo Fighters hit the stage with modern rock songs such as "Times Like These", "All My Life", "Learn to Fly" and "The Pretender". They also performed an anthem about planetary entitled "The Sky Is a Neighborhood" and a highlight medley of "Concrete and Gold". In the middle of the performance, the band's lead vocal Dave Grohl shouted to the crowd, "I know you love the rock & roll music. We've got a lot of f***ing records. It's going to be a long f***ing night!"

It is thanks to Foo Fighters that Cal Jam could happen. Grohl said that he was greatly inspired by Petty, leading to the one-day festival in California. Both Homme and Grohl also said that they attended Petty's final concert at the Hollywood Bowl. "When I went and saw him play the other night, it was like, 'Hey, man, come on....!' So my intention tonight is for us to come out like that. It was my third time seeing him. It made a really big impact," Homme noted.

The concert aside, the festival included a camping and a water park, carnival rides, a recording studio, a giant skate ramp and a Foo Fighters museum. There was also a white limo from Foo Fighters' "White Limo" music video and Grohl's stage throne.
