The 'I'm Yours' hitmaker will join the cast of the Broadway musical which is set for a 10-week run beginning in November and features songs written by the 6-time Grammy winner.

AceShowbiz - Jason Mraz is heading to Broadway. The 2-time Grammy-winning singer-songwriter will join the cast of "Waitress" musical. He is set to star as Dr. Pomatter, a married physician who gives the titular waitress, Jenna, a new outlook on life when they begin an affair.

Based on the 2007 motion picture of the same name written by the late Adrienne Shelly, "Waitress" is the first Broadway musical in history to have four women in the four top creative team spots. In addition to Sara Bareilles' score, the show features a book by Jessie Nelson, choreography by Lorin Latarro and direction by Tony winner Diane Paulus.

"Waitress" follows an expert pie maker in a small town named Jenna, who dreams of a way out of her loveless marriage with her husband Earl. A baking contest in a nearby county and the town's new physician, Dr. Pomatter, may offer her a chance at a new life.

In the original comedy drama "Waitress", Jenna was played by Keri Russell, her husband Earl was portrayed by Jeremy Sisto, while Dr. Jim Pomatter was depicted by Nathan Fillion. In the new Broadway take, stepping in for the role of Jenna is Betsy Wolfe, while Earl will be played by Will Swenson.

Produced on Broadway by Barry & Fran Weissler and Norton & Elayne Herrick, "Waitress" begins its U.S. national tour at Cleveland's Playhouse Square this October. Mraz joins the company for a 10-week run beginning on November 3.

Mraz, who has sold 48 million singles beginning with his record-breaking 2008 hit "I'm Yours", studied for a year and a half at New York City's American Musical and Dramatic Academy. He will make his Broadway debut in the musical, which opened last April.

The musical features songs written by six-time Grammy winner Bareilles, with whom Mraz recorded the songs "Bad Idea" and "You Matter to Me" on her 2015 album "What's Inside: Songs From Waitress".
