Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has released an official statement following the incident, insisting that other transportation and accommodation options were available to all actors.

AceShowbiz - SAG-AFTRA is set to send a team to Vancouver set of The CW/Warner Bros.' TV production of "Riverdale". It comes on the heels of the car crash involving one of the show's stars, KJ Apa, who fell asleep at the wheel last week after an alleged grueling 16-hour work day.

"This is an extremely troubling situation and we are deeply concerned about the safety of performers on the 'Riverdale' set," said SAG-AFTRA in a statement. "We are sending a team to Vancouver to review the circumstances surrounding safety issues affecting performers on this production."

Hours after details were revealed about the early-morning accident involving Apa, Warner Bros. released a statement on Thursday, September 21. "First and foremost, we are extremely grateful that KJ Apa was uninjured during his recent accident," the statement read. "Secondarily, we want to specifically address the characterization that conditions on the set of 'Riverdale' are of concern. We have a large cast of series regulars, and our actors do not work every day."

"KJ has repeatedly been informed about making production aware if he is tired or feels unsafe, and if so, either a ride or hotel room will be provided for him," the studio spoke of Apa, who portrayed Archie on "Riverdale". "The accident occurred last Thursday. Additionally, it is untrue that KJ was taken to the hospital. He was treated by first responders on the scene and released by them. We also sent a doctor to his home later that same day for a follow-up to confirm his well-being."

Apa was making a 45-minute trip back home from the set when he fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a light pole. His car was reportedly totaled and no longer operable. The passenger side was heavily damaged. However, the 20-year-old New Zealand actor suffered no serious injuries.

Rumors had it that the cast and crew of "Riverdale" were protesting policies regarding work hours and transportation to and from set with star Cole Sprouse leading. It was said that Sprouse initially planned to take a ride home with Apa on the night of the accident but he canceled it at the last minute.
