Cable, whose alter-ego is Nathan Summer, is described in the comics as the biological son of X-Man Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor (Jean Grey's Clone) and the genetic template for Stryfe. He is from a possible future timeline, having been transported as an infant to the future, where he grew into a warrior, before returning to the present. With his messy origin from the comics, the movie is said to take a few liberties with his backstory.

The "Deadpool" sequel will see the return of Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth. When asked in a recent interview if the villain storyline would include time traveling like it happened in the comic books, Reynolds said, "It is possible. Your answers will all be, they'll be soon. They'll be coming soon."

The movie will also see the return of Morena Baccarin as the hero's love interest named Vanessa, T.J. Miller as his friend Weasel, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapicic as Colossus, Leslie Ugams as Blind Al, and Karan Soni as Dopinder. Additionally, Zazie Beetz joins the cast to play Domino, Jack Kesy takes on the role of Black Tom Cassidy, and Shioli Kutsuna lands a mystery role.

Scheduled to be released in theaters across the United States on June 1 next year, the film is directed by David Leitch ("Atomic Blonde") from a script written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernic, the writing duo behind the first film. It's being produced by Reynolds along with Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner.
