EP Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa teases that the first episode of the upcoming sophomore season will unveil Fred's future after being shot in last season's finale.

AceShowbiz - First-look photo of second season of "Riverdale" has found its way out online. The new photo sees Archie (KJ Apa) trying to save his father Fred (Luke Perry) after the latter was shockingly shot at Pop Tate's Diner in season 1 finale.

Coming via Entertainment Weekly, the photo features Archie struggling to find medical help for his father. As blood covers their clothes, things don't look good for Fred. In addition, he is seen lying on a hospital bed while being hooked to a respirator in the recently-released season 2 teaser.

Of the mysterious shooting, executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa teases, "We don't know everything that happened in that diner in the finale." He adds, "In our first episode back in our premiere, we're back in that diner and seeing everything that happened in that diner with Fred and Archie and that gunman and poor Pop Tate who's also traumatized by the events. It's really a psychological exploration of Archie after that as well."

Aguirre-Sacara goes on comparing Archie to Bruce Wayne and Peter Parker, who try to seek revenge for their loved ones. "It's much like Bruce Wayne and Peter Parker in that it does pivot towards heroism and there are definitely hero moments for Archie. But first it goes dark."

The EP also promises that it won't take long for us to learn Fred's fate. "We will reveal his fate at the end of episode one," says the EP. "Episode one is almost a special episode. It's a little bit like the 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' episode 'The Body'. It's structurally a little bit different."

EP Greg Berlanti, meanwhile, previously shared that "the first three episodes of this [new season] are the strongest of a second season I've been a part of." He went on teasing, "It's got an incredible new mystery and a new hook, and I think it's got more of everything that people love about the show."

"Riverdale" season 2 premieres on Wednesday, October 11 at 8 P.M. on The CW.
