Jennifer Lawrence Is a Seductive, but Deadly Spy in 'Red Sparrow' First Trailer
Movie

Jennifer plays a ballerina who, after suffering a career-ending injury, finds herself being manipulated into becoming a new recruit for a program that trains her to use her body and mind as weapons.

AceShowbiz - While Jennifer Lawrence plays a married woman who is facing some serious, nerve-wracking experiences in Darren Aronofsky's "mother!" which hits U.S. theaters starting this weekend, the actress takes on a totally different role in next year's "Red Sparrow". And now fans have been offered the first trailer which introduces Jennifer's deadly character in the Fox upcoming spy thriller.

Jennifer portrays Dominika Egorova, a destitute ballerina whose career ends after a tragic incident. The 1-and-a-half-minute video opens with her wearing a brunette wig and a low-cut red dress on a bed while a man tells her, "Take off your dress," after he places a mobile phone and money clip on the table.

The intense trailer then jumps to some scenes featuring curtains swirling and a man being strangled, before the titular assassin, now going blonde, can be seen walking down stairs. The trailer also offers a glimpse of Joel Edgerton's character who says in voiceover that Sparrows, including Dominika, will "use everything" to execute their mission.

In "Red Sparrow", Dominika Egorova is many things. A devoted daughter determined to protect her mother at all costs. A prima ballerina whose ferocity has pushed her body and mind to the absolute limit. A master of seductive and manipulative combat.

When she suffers a career-ending injury, Dominika and her mother are facing a bleak and uncertain future. That is why she finds herself being manipulated into becoming the newest recruit for Sparrow School, a secret intelligence service that trains exceptional young people like her to use their bodies and minds as weapons.

After enduring the perverse and sadistic training process, she emerges as the most dangerous Sparrow the program has ever produced. Dominika must now reconcile the person she was with the power she now commands, with her own life and everyone she cares about at risk, including an American CIA agent who tries to convince her he is the only person she can trust.

The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters across the nation on March 2, 2018. It's directed by Francis Lawrence, who previously worked together with Jennifer Lawrence on "The Hunger Games" film series. Written by Justin Haythe, the film also stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Charlotte Rampling, Mary-Louise Parker, Jeremy Irons, Ciaran Hinds, Joely Richardson, Thekla Reuten, Sergei Polunin and Sakina Jaffrey.
