Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig Get Shrunk in First 'Downsizing' Trailer
Movie

Damon and Wiig play a couple who joins a program which offers a solution to overpopulation, leading them to a life-changing adventures.

AceShowbiz - Matt Damon is a rich, tiny guy in "Downsizing", which first trailer has just been released for viewing pleasure. The video introduces us to a scenario where the solution to overpopulation and climate change is shrinking people down to five inches tall.

Damon and Kristen Wiig play Paul Safranek and his wife Audrey, who are interested in the program. His friend Dave Johnson (Jason Sudeikis) has already joined the program and tells Paul of the advantages, "Downsizing takes the pressure right off. ... We live like kings. We've got the best houses, the best restaurants - Cheesecake Factory, we’ve got three of 'em!"

As if it's not tempting enough, Paul and Audrey are told that their $52,000 saving translates to $12.5 million once they're tiny. When they decide to abandon their stressed lives in order to get small and move to a new downsized community, they make a choice that triggers life-changing adventures.

From director Alexander Payne, the movie has a star-studded cast which is supported by Christoph Waltz, Alec Baldwin and Neil Patrick Harris among others. Payne also wrote the script along with Jim Taylor.

Speaking to EW recently, Payne said he didn't intend to make it a political movie despite the satirical tone. "When Jim [Taylor] and I decided to do something with the idea, we saw it in more political terms," he explained. "I don't want it to sound too much like a political movie. We're more interested in making human films. Humans are involved in politics, so we thought this story was an interesting prism through which to view our times."

The movie premiered to rave reviews at Venice Film Festival last month. It is set to be released in theaters across the nation on December 22.
