AceShowbiz - Ryan Murphy teams up with longtime collaborator Sarah Paulson for a new drama series "Ratched" on Netflix. The series is about the origin of 1974's "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" character Nurse Ratched, famously portrayed by Louise Fletcher in the movie. On the upcoming series, Paulson will star as the younger version of the malicious nurse.

Set in 1947, "Ratched" is set to chronicle Ratched's evolution from an average nurse into the monstrous authority figure she became in the novel and subsequent film. Murphy will serve as executive producer alongside the film's producer Michael Douglas.

According to Deadline, Netflix has given the project a two-season, 18-episode, straight-to-series order on the network. Newcomer Evan Romansky writes the script, with Murphy directing the opening episode. Romansky will executive produce the series, while Paulson will produce along with Paul Zaentz from the Saul Zaentz Company. Produced by Fox 21 Television, "Ratched" is slated to begin production sometime in 2018.

"Ratched" marks Murphy's first series to air on a streaming platform. The series will be added into his already long resume, joining "American Horror Story", "American Crime Story", "Feud", "Pose" and "9-1-1". As for Paulson, the Emmy-winning actress is currently starring on "American Horror Story:Cult". Paulson previously nabbed Emmy's Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or a Movie for her role as Marcia Clark on "American Crime Story: People v. O.J. Simpson".

"One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" was based on a 1962 novel of the same name written by Ken Kessey. Starring opposite Fletcher was Jack Nicholson, who played Randle McMurphy. Also starring Danny DeVito, Christopher Lloyd and Scatman Crothers, the movie won five Academy Awards, including Best Actress for Fletcher, Best Actor for Nicholson, as well as Best Picture.
