The legendary country singer and guitarist passed away on Tuesday in Nashville 'following his long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.'

AceShowbiz - Glen Campbell has passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. TMZ has reported that the country legend, best known for his 1975 hit "Rhinestone Cowboy", died Tuesday, August 8 around 10 A.M. in a Nashville facility for Alzheimer's patients. He was 81.
Glen's family confirmed in a statement posted on his website, "It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and legendary singer and guitarist, Glen Travis Campbell, at the age of 81, following his long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease."
"In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Glen Campbell Memorial Fund at BrightFocus Foundation through the CareLiving.org donation page," the family added. "A personal statement from Kim Campbell will follow. The family appreciates your prayers and respect for their privacy at this time."
Glen is survived by his wife of 35 years Kim and 8 children. Kim is scheduled to speak at The Alzheimer's Alliance of Smith County luncheon in Tyler, Texas in November about the challenges faced by people living with the disease and their families.
Mourning the loss of the musician, one of his daughters, Ashley Campbell, posted on Instagram a picture of her hand locking with his. "Heartbroken. I owe him everything I am, and everything I ever will be. He will be remembered so well and with so much love," she captioned the post.
Fellow musicians, friends and fans sent their love and condolences to the late singer and his family via social media.
Blake Shelton took to Twitter to say that he's "extremely sad to hear that Glen Campbell has passed away." He added, "My prayers and thoughts go out to him and his family."

Glen was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in June 2011. The Grammy-winning singer had been suffering from short-term memory loss for years, but the Alzheimer's diagnosis was confirmed in early 2011.
