'It's possible to be grateful for the opportunity and respectful of the colleagues and the people that I work with and still maintain a steadfast sense of your self-worth,' the actor revealed.

AceShowbiz - It has been nearly a month since Daniel Dae Kim posted a lengthy Facebook post to confirm his exit from "Hawaii Five-0" after he and CBS failed to reach agreement on salary. During ABC's "The Good Doctor" panel at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, the actor has finally made his first public response to his departure.

"That was a really important part of my life for seven years, and I'm really grateful to CBS and everyone involved with the show for giving me the opportunity," Kim opened up. "I've known [CBS Entertainment president] Kelly and [CBS' senior exec vp programming] Thom Sherman for a while, I met Thom all the way back from the days on 'Lost'. I know them and I like them, and I'm grateful to them for the words that they said on the panel the other day."

"That said, it's possible to be grateful for the opportunity and respectful of the colleagues and the people that I work with and still maintain a steadfast sense of your self-worth," he continued. "All good things come to an end. I close that chapter on 'Hawaii Five-0' and I begin this new chapter on 'The Good Doctor'. And I couldn't be more excited to be back at ABC where I started my career in earnest and to be working with such incredible people. This is the start of something new, and I'm really grateful for that, too."

"I will not be returning to 'Hawaii Five-0' when production starts next week. Though I made myself available to come back, CBS and I weren't able to agree to terms on a new contract, so I made the difficult choice not to continue," Kim previously wrote on his Facebook page, before adding, "The path to equality is rarely easy." Kim and co-star Grace Park reportedly decided not to return for season 8 of the long-running series after the network offered a deal which was 10 to 15|percent| lower to their co-stars Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan.

During TCA, Kim dished on the Freddie Highmore-starring "The Good Doctor", which he executive produces. "I'm very proud to be a part of this show," Kim gushed. "It's one that I saw several years ago after it aired in Korea. I loved the message of it and it was a very familiar genre to American audiences and I thought it would be a good opportunity to make it in America," Kim spoke of the upcoming ABC drama, which is based on a Korean series starring Joo Won and Moon Chae Won.

"I'm really content being behind the scenes of this show," Kim continued. "I feel like it's in really good hands with David [Shore] and the cast. It's been fascinating to me to watch their work as a producer. At some point, I'd love to play with them. They inspired me and it would be a nice opportunity."

"Hawaii Five-0" returns for season 8 on Friday, September 29 at 9 P.M. on CBS, while "The Good Doctor" will debut on Monday, September 25 at 10 P.M. on ABC.
