Funniest K-Pop Idols' Scouting Stories
Celebrity

These popular K-pop idols were scouted by their respective agencies in the most unusual (and even 'scary') ways.

AceShowbiz - We often wonder how things happen to us, but sometimes the only answer is fate. There are thousands of people going on auditions to be idols in South Korea, but there are a lot of idols who started their journey to stardom when they least expected it. Here are the funniest stories of K-pop idols who got scouted by their respective agencies in unexpected ways.

EXO's Baekhyun

Before he entered SM Entertainment, Baekhyun of EXO had almost given up of becoming a singer. He went to so many auditions, but he always ended up getting rejected. The "Beautiful" hitmaker decided to take a break from auditioning and enroll at a music school to enhance his singing skills.

He was preparing to take an exam at Seoul Institute of Arts when he met a scouting manager who heard him clearing his throat and practicing. The manager offered him to audition and he was accepted. Baekhyun became one of the last members to join EXO as the group was already assembled when he entered the agency.

Girls' Generation's Tiffany

Tiffany (II) of Girls' Generation didn't pass SM Entertainment's audition which was held in the United States. However, she got a second chance when a scouting manager accidentally heard her singing at a Korean festival.

When she was standing in front of the bathroom, the manager approached her and persuaded her to return to South Korea. Tiffany accepted the offer due to her love for singing and labelmate BoA. She flew to Seoul three weeks later before finally becoming a trainee in the agency.

SHINee's Minho

Minho of SHINee, who originally wanted to be a soccer player, was approached by a scouting manager of SM Entertainment when he was vacationing at a ski resort. He declined the offer at that time, but the manager insisted and asked where he went to school. The "Lucifer" hitmaker ended up being "stalked" by the manager, who kept persuading him to join the agency. After months of declining, Minho finally gave up and accepted his offer to audition for the agency.

However, the story didn't end there. Minho later shared his funny audition story during an appearance on "Problematic Men" last year. "As I was going to the audition, I thought to myself, 'There's no way I'll make it,' " he recalled. "When I finally got there, my mind went blank and I couldn't remember a single song. I ended up singing the Korean national anthem. They asked me to sing one more song, so then I sang my school's song. They took my picture and then later, I found out that I had passed the audition."

miss A's Suzy

Suzy of miss A had always wanted to be a singer, leading her to go to "Superstar K" 's audition. The show is known as the Koreans' "American Idol" which has become the starting point of many famous singers.

Suzy's wish to become a singer did come true, but through a very unexpected way. While she was at the bathroom, a scouting manager of JYP Entertainment came in. The manager thought she stood out from other participants and asked her to sing on the spot. After the short audition, she was offered to join the agency and debuted with miss A the following year.

TVXQ's Max Changmin

Max Changmin wouldn't be a TVXQ member if a scouting manager hadn't noticed him when he was playing badminton at his school with his friends. The manager then started going to his school everyday in order to persuade him to audition for the agency. Changmin, who wasn't interested in becoming a singer, always rejected the offer.

When the "Bolero" singer felt that the manager had gone too far, he told his mother about it. However, his mother turned out to be very supportive because she knew BoA is one of the artists in SM Entertainment. She ended up forcing Changmin to go to the audition because she wanted to meet BoA.

EXO's Sehun

Sehun of EXO was only an elementary student when he entered SM Entertainment. The 23-year-old rapper was eating spicy rice cake at a street vendor with his friends when a woman came to him and tried to give him a name card. The woman turned out to be a scouting manager of SM Entertainment and offered him to audition. Young Sehun became afraid of the woman and eventually ran away from her.

"I ran for 30 minutes, trying to escape," Sehun said. "But she kept chasing after me." The "EXO Next Door" actor then revealed the reason why he tried so hard to run away. "When I was young, my mom told me that if I ever saw a strange person, I had to escape," he shared. "Because I was very young back then, I was very scared."

2PM's Wooyoung

Wooyoung of 2PM wasn't scouted by his agency, but his casting story is still one of the funniest. When he was a teenager, he only wanted to join JYP Entertainment, but there wasn't an open audition at that time. The "Dream High" star ended up trying to become a member of Wonder Girls. However, because the audition was specifically for female, he didn't make the cut.

Although he got rejected, the agency noticed his talent, causing him to regain strength and participated in another audition held by the agency. This time, he ranked first among other participants and eventually joined the agency he adored so much.
