'How do we get ahead of crazy if we don't know how crazy thinks?' Holt McCallany's character says at the end of the trailer.

AceShowbiz - Netflix has released the first official trailer of David Fincher-directed crime drama "Mindhunter". The eerie trailer offers fans a better look at what to expect from the creepy series about serial killers.

Set to a daunting score, the ominous trailer opens with a photo of a dead woman, who seemingly is brutally killed in the middle of a forest. "It's not easy butchering people. It's hard work," says an apparent murderer to Jonathan Groff's character, an FBI agent.

"We should be using every resource we can, talking to the smartest people we find from the broadest possible spectrum," Groff's character says after a scene in which a woman, who is found dead while being cuffed and lashed to a bed at an apartment, is glimpsed. He later can be seen attending a class which discusses whether criminals are born or formed.

"Psychopaths are convinced that there is nothing wrong with them so these men are virtually impossible to study, yet you have found a way in near-perfect laboratory conditions. That's what makes this so exciting and potentially so far-reaching," a psychologist named Wendy, played by "Fringe" star Anna Torv, tells Groff and Holt McCallany's characters.

The two-minute trailer makes references to real series killers such as David Berkowitz a.k.a. Son of Sam and Charles Manson. "How do we get ahead of crazy if we don't know how crazy thinks?" McCallany's character says at the end of the trailer.

Set in 1979 where "serial killer" was a new term, "Mindhunter" follows two FBI agents in the serial crime unit, who set out on a sinister investigative odyssey to discover the brutal answers. Fincher ("Seven", "Zodiac") is set to serve behind the lens, much to people's excitement.

"Mindhunter" is based on John Douglas and Mark Olshaker's 1996 book titled "Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit". The Netflix series marks the first Fincher series for the streaming giant.

"Mindhunter" premieres on October 13 on Netflix.
