The 'Saving the Human Race' actor will play Ralph Dibny a.k.a. Elongated Man, 'a fast-talking private investigator' who possesses the power to 'stretch his body to any shape or form.'

AceShowbiz - "The Flash" has made it official that DC Comics superhero Elongated Man will make an appearance in the upcoming season 4. The show has tapped "The Young and the Restless" actor Hartley Sawyer to play a recurring role as Ralph Dibny a.k.a. Elongated Man.

The official description of the character reads, "One of the Flash's most iconic allies, Ralph Dibny-a.k.a. The Elongated Man-is a fast-talking private investigator with investigative skills that rival those of Batman. Upon discovering he has the power to stretch his body to any shape or form, Dibny uses his new abilities to help Team Flash solve one of Central City's greatest mysteries."

Created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino, Dibny obtained his elasticity from "gingo" fruit extract, which later activated a latent metahuman gene. He went on to become a trusted ally of Barry Allen and a member of the Justice League of America. He was first seen in 1960's "The Flash" #112.

Sawyer joins previously-announced new cast members Neil Sandilands, Kim Engelbrecht and Danny Trejo. Sandilands will take on the role of Clifford Devoe a.k.a. new big bad the Thinker, while Engelbrecth will portray the Mechanic, a highly intelligent engineer and the Thinker's right hand. As for Trejo, he will play Earth-19 bounty hunter Breacher.

"The Flash" season 4 is set to premiere on October 10 at 8 P.M. on The CW.
