MTV president Chris McCarthy revealed that the idea of bringing 'Teen Wolf' to the audio world was inspired by 'Serial', the addictive true-crime podcast about a high school murder case.

AceShowbiz - Weeks before "Teen Wolf" officially airs its 6th and final season, MTV has already been thinking how to keep one of its most successful scripted shows alive. The Viacom-owned cable network and creator/showrunner Jeff Davis are in early talks to develop a new take on the franchise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, they are planning to reboot "Teen Wolf" into a potential anthology in podcast form after the series wraps its run this summer. The new take reportedly will feature a new setting and a largely new cast, though bringing back returning characters is not completely beyond realm of possibility.

"These characters and these stories have hit a peak," MTV president Chris McCarthy said. "We are talking with Jeff about how do we actually keep that franchise alive. And the beauty of the evolution of media is you can see the series going on through a series of podcasts and then see a resurrection of a new class in a couple years."

The president revealed that the idea of bringing "Teen Wolf" to the audio world was inspired by "Serial", the addictive true-crime podcast about a high school murder case. "How do we keep this franchise alive in podcasts, in the spirit of 'Serial', and then how do we actually reboot an entire new class? Because the heart of MTV is around these timeless issues of young people and coming of age, but the timely piece will be the whole new cast, new set of issues and stories to explore through them," McCarthy explained.

"Teen Wolf" will premiere its 10-episode final season on July 30 at 8 P.M. on MTV. It will feature the returns of some fan-favorite characters, including Stiles (Dylan O'Brien), Jackson (Colton Haynes) and Ethan (Charlie Carver).
