Lionsgate has announced via Twitter the official title and release date of the upcoming horror thriller, which was previously referred to as 'Saw: Legacy'.

AceShowbiz - The official title and release date of the eighth installment of the "Saw" movie series have been revealed. Lionsgate Films has announced via Twitter that the upcoming horror thriller, which was previously referred to as "Saw: Legacy", will now be titled "Jigsaw".

It is named after the movie series' main villain whose real name is John Kramer. The titular killer will once again be played by Tobin Bell who has portrayed the sadistic character, also called "Jigsaw Killer", both before and after his death in the movies.

In addition to revealing the title, the studio has announced that the latest installment of the long-running horror movie franchise is coming to U.S. theaters this year on October 27. An international release is planned for sometime in early 2018.

"Jigsaw" is directed by Peter and Michael Spierig, the brothers who helmed "Daybreakers" and "Predestination", with a script provided by "Sorority Row" writers Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger, James Wan and Leigh Whannell.

Laura Vandervoort, Hannah Emily Anderson, Mandela Van Peebles, Brittany Allen and Michael Boisvert star in the upcoming movie which synopsis reads, "Dead bodies begin to turn up all over the city, each meeting their demise in a variety of grisly ways. All investigations begin to point the finger at deceased killer John Kramer."
