'Shadowhunters' Gets Early Season 3 Renewal on Freeform

Via Facebook Live chat, the cast and crew of the series about demon hunters announced the 20-episode season 3 renewal which comes ahead of the show's return in June.

AceShowbiz - Sexy teenage demon hunters on "Shadowhunters" are not going anywhere. Freeform has announced that the series adaptation of "The Mortal Instrument" by Cassandra Clare has been picked up for season 3 to air in 2018. Announced via Facebook Live chat, the 20-episode new season renewal comes ahead of second half of "Shadowhunters" second season run later in June.

The video featured the cast members, who are currently finishing production of the second half of second season, gathering to announce the exciting news from the Toronto-based set on Friday morning, April 21. During the Facebook Live chat, which was a part of the network's upfronts presentation, Katherine McNamara answered a fan's question about what they felt working with newcomers, actor Will Tudor and director Paul Wesley. The Clary depicter revealed, "It's been really great to have some new bloods," which made the others laugh.

The series follows Clary Fray, a young woman who learns that she's a half-angel demon hunter shortly after she turns 18. Also starring on the series are Dominic Sherwood as Jace Wayland, Alberto Rosende as Simon Lewis, Emeraude Toubia as Isabelle Lightwood, Matthew Daddario as Alec Lightwood, Isaiah Mustafa as Luke Garroway and Harry Shum Jr. as Magnus Bane.

Official synopsis of season 2B reads, "As the rift between the two sides grows larger, the team and their Downworld friends and lovers are put in the middle of the dangerous divide. Torn between the Clave's rules and what they feel is right, Clary, Jace, Alec and Isabelle struggle to help forge a new beginning. Relationships will be tested, a new Shadowhunter named Sebastian will join the fray and the Seelie Queen will step out of the shadows in the summer season."

"Shadowhunters" returns with new episodes starting on Monday, June 5 at 8 P.M. on Freeform.
