The reboot will see Lara Croft's origin story, in which she tries to find her place in the world before she eventually decides to investigate her father's disappearance.

AceShowbiz - Warner Bros. and MGM have revealed the first official photos of Alicia Vikander in untitled Tomb Raider reboot. The photos make their way out via the studios' Instagram account and several sites, featuring the 28-year-old Swedish actress as the iconic Lara Croft.

In one of the photos, Vikander's Lara Croft stands near the coast with a tense look, seemingly facing someone who can be her enemy. The other photo sees Lara Croft posing in the middle of a forest.

According to Vanity Fair, the reboot will feature a new backstory of Lara Croft. The movie will follow 21-year-old Lara Croft whose father disappeared seven years before. Instead of taking over the reins of her father's global business empire, Lara attends college classes and works as a bike courier in London. As time goes by, Lara realizes that she needs to investigate her father's disappearance. She eventually travels to a tomb off the coast of Japan, the last-known location visited by her father.

Vikander has expressed her view about the iconic character. "She's trying to carve out her place in the world and connect her future with her past," she tells Vanity Fair. "She is also uniquely different to other characters I have taken on previously. It's a lot of fun trying to get into Lara's head, and the challenge of getting to grips with such a physical role is an element of this project that I find an absolute thrill," she adds.

In an interview with GQ, director Roar Uthaug explains that the reboot "will introduce Lara as a young woman who hasn't yet found her way and her place in the world." He adds, "We follow her struggles and her journey toward becoming the person she was meant to be and earning the role of 'Tomb Raider'."

Based on a popular video game of the same name, the reboot is set to be released in U.S. theaters on March 16, 2018. Also starring in the movie are Dominic West as Lara's father Lord Richard Croft, Daniel Wu as a ship captain who assists Lara Croft to find her father and Walton Goggins as the main villain of the movie.
