The 'Jackie' star will reportedly portray John Paul Getty III's mother Abigail Harris, who will convince oil tycoon John Paul Getty to pay the ransom to release her son.

AceShowbiz - After directing "Alien: Covenant", Ridley Scott is reportedly dealing with "All the Money in the World". Written by David Scarpa, the drama is based on the real-life kidnapping of John Paul Getty III, the grandson of oil tycoon John Paul Getty who's one of the richest men at that time. The production is set to begin in May in Italy.

According to Deadline, Natalie Portman will possibly star as Abigail Harris, the mother of Getty III. Meanwhile, Oscar-winning actor Jack Nicholson is expected to play the business mogul, Getty. There's no words regarding who's going to play Getty III in the drama.

Set in Rome, the drama chronicles the kidnapping of 16-year-old Getty III in 1973. Getty III was reported faking his own kidnapping, so when a ransom note demanding $17 miliion was received, his family suspected it was legitimate. Getty, however, refused to pay the ransom partly because he figured that if he paid the money then his other 14 grandchildren could also be taken.

Four months later, an envelope containing a lock of hair and an ear was delivered to a daily newspaper with a threat of further mutilation of Getty III, unless the ransom was paid. At this point, Getty agreed to pay the ransom. Harris' efforts were believed playing of convincing the oil tycoon to finally pay the money.

News of Portman's casting comes on the heels of Angelina Jolie reportedly turning down the offer to play the role due to schedulling conflicts. Portman recently starred in "Jackie" and "Planetarium". The "Black Swan" actress will soon be seen in "Song to Song", which is set to hit U.S. theaters on March 17.
