The 'Empire' actress says, 'I did not get this surgery to be beautiful,' before adding, 'I did it so I can walk around comfortably in heels.'

AceShowbiz - "Empire" actress Gabourey Sidibe is about to launch her new book titled "This Is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare". In her new memoir, the 33-year-old actress opens up about the moment she went under the knife to lose weight after she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes back in May 2016.

"I truly didn't want to worry about all the effects that go along with diabetes," Gabby tells PEOPLE, which is excerpting her new memoir. "I genuinely [would] worry all the time about losing my toes," she adds.

Talking about her surgery, she says, "My surgeon said they'd cut my stomach in half. This would limit my hunger and capacity to eat. My brain chemistry would change and I'd want to eat healthier. I'll take it! My lifelong relationship with food had to change."

However, getting a laparoscopic bariatric surgery wasn't an easy decision for her. "The surgery wasn't the easy way out," the "American Horror Story" alum admits. "I wasn't cheating by getting it done. I wouldn't have been able to lose as much as I've lost without it."

Gabby goes on saying, "It has taken me years to realize that what I was born with is all beautiful." She explains, "I did not get this surgery to be beautiful. I did it so I can walk around comfortably in heels. I want to do a cartwheel. I want not to be in pain every time I walk up a flight of stairs."

As for now, Gabby is steadily losing weight. "I have a goal right now, and I'm almost there," she says. "And then once I've got it, I'll set another. But my starting weight and my goal weight, they're personal. If too many people are involved, I'll shut down."

She also talks about her post-surgery love life with the webloid, claiming that she'd "love to be dating." She says, "I looked around a good five months ago, and I realized: Every single person that I hang out with is either a gay man or a woman, and neither one of those people are gonna (expletive) me." She adds, "Or marry me. That's the ultimate goal."
