'I realized there will never be better, a more perfect, a more sensitive, emotional, and beautiful way of saying au revoir to Charles Xavier than this movie,' says the actor.

AceShowbiz - Patrick Stewart will no longer play Professor Charles Xavier in the "X-Men" franchise. The actor has confirmed that "Logan" will be the last movie which features himself as the mutant leader. The decision was made during the screening of the new film alongside Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold.

"A week ago, Friday night in Berlin, the three of us sat, watching the movie. And I was so moved by it," Stewart told Entertainment Weekly. "Much more moved than I had been the first time of seeing it," added the actor. "Maybe it was the company of these two guys, but the movie ended and this is an admission - but at one point [Hugh] reached out and he took my hand in those last few minutes and I say him go [mimes wiping a tear from his eye] like this, and then I realized I had just done the same thing."

Stewart continued, "Then, the movie ended... and we were going to be taken up on stage, but not until the credits were over. So, we had some time to sit there and, as I sat there I realized there will never be better, a more perfect, a more sensitive, emotional, and beautiful way of saying au revoir to Charles Xavier than this movie." He added, "So, I told [Hugh] that same evening, 'I'm done too. It's all over.' "

Stewart first starred as Charles Xavier a.k.a. Professor X in 2000's "X-Men". The actor then reprised his role as the professor in "X-Men 2" in 2003, "X-Men: The Last Stand" in 2006, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" in 2009, "The Wolverine" in 2013 and "X-Men: Days of Future Past" in 2014.

"Logan" is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on March 3.
