'La La Land' and 'Stranger Things' Win PGA Awards

'La La Land' unsurprisingly nabbed an award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, while 'Stranger Things' won an award for episodic television.

AceShowbiz - Continuing its success in this year's awards season, "La La Land" claimed one of the top honors at the 28th annual Producers Guild Awards. Damien Chazelle's musical won Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, a prize that often leads to a victory for best picture at the Academy Awards.

"La La Land" defeated "Arrival", "Deadpool", "Fences", "Hacksaw Ridge", "Hell or High Water", "Hidden Figures", "Lion", "Manchester by the Sea" and "Moonlight" for the prize. In his acceptance speech, producer Platt said, "Damien Chazelle has made a story about the sacrifices artists make. We celebrate all the fools who struggle but passionately try to achieve our artistic dreams."

"Zootopia" claimed an honor for animated theatrical motion pictures. In TV field, Netflix's new hit "Stranger Things" won The Norman Felton Award for Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television, Drama, while "Atlanta" nabbed The Danny Thomas Award for Episodic Television, Comedy.

The ceremony was held in Beverly Hilton Hotel and filled with political tone, alluding to President Donald Trump's new policy to ban refugees from some Muslim countries. Singer John Legend expressed his opinion during his speech. "Our America is big, it is free, and it is open to dreamers of all races, all countries, all religions," he said. "Our vision of America is directly antithetical to that of President Trump. I want to specifically, tonight, reject his vision and affirm America has to be better than that."

"O.J.: Made in America" producer Ezra Edelmen, who won an award for Outstanding Producer of Documentary Theatrical Motion Pictures, said at the event, "Please keep telling stories that are about out humanity."
