The good news comes only a few weeks before the third season finale airs.

AceShowbiz - Showtime CEO David Nevins announced on Monday, January 8, at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that "The Affair" had been renewed for a fourth season. This announcement comes only 3 weeks before the third season finale, which will air on January 29.

"The Affair" is a series which explores the troubled life of a married man and a married woman who have an extramarital affair. This series stars Ruth Wilson, Dominic West, Joshua Jackson and Maura Tierney. It's famous for the "he-said, she-said" narrative style which splits each episode into two halves, showing the perspective of different characters.

Even though its premiere season won two Golden Globes, the series has fallen more and more as it receives harsh criticism from both critics and viewers for missing some of its original sparks such as complicated structure and philosophical approach to the nature of truth.

Sarah Treem, co-creator and executive producer of "The Affair", had hinted at the series renewal in an interview on December 30, saying, "I see a fourth season that will bring all the characters back together in a way that would feel really satisfying and surprising and end a journey." It's quite surprising since Treem once said in her 2015 interview that she only planned for 3 seasons of "The Affair" and was not sure about a fourth one.
