The new soulful song captures the 50s and 60s sounds, falling in line with the film's setting which takes place in early 1960s.

AceShowbiz - Alicia Keys connects with Pharrell Williams for a new song from "Hidden Figures". Marking the latest to be released from the flick's soundtrack album, the up-tempo song is titled "Apple" and it features retro flavor, throwback vibes and plenty of hand clapping.

Produced by Swizz Beatz, the soulful song kicks off with Alicia's mezzo vocal as she sings, "Funny thing about the apple/ The peach is sweet, but ain't the same/ The pear compares, but that's natural." Pharrell continues singing in high-pitched vocals, "You turn my ovens on (Flame)/ You can smell when it's warm (Flame)/ Burn the house to the lawn (Flame)/ Happens quick as they on (Flame)."

Pharrell opened up about "Hidden Figures" in a recent interview with Deadline, saying "it made sense for everything we stand for." He explained that he first heard the film through his creative director Mimi Valdes. "Mimi knew I was going to lose my mind when I heard about 'Hidden Figures'. And I was all about it the minute I heard about it," he said.

He was drawn to the true story of how African-American women were instrumental in helping America win the Space Race. "It was about uncovering a significant part of history, and the lifting of women and the highlighting of their importance. When you find out some of these intricate parts were played by women, then it becomes a whole other thing," he said.

"Hidden Figures" recounts the story of the African-American mathematician Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson) and her two colleagues, Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae), who helped NASA catch up in the Space Race. The cast also includes Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst and "The Big Bang Theory" star Jim Parsons. It is scheduled to hit theaters across the U.S. on December 25 before going on wider release on January 6, 2017.
