AceShowbiz - Paramount Pictures has finally unleashed the first trailer for Martin Scorsese's "Silence". It sees Andrew Garfield as Father Rodrigues, a Portuguese Jesuit priest who is dispatched to feudal Japan on a mission to search for his missing mentor portrayed by Liam Neeson.

The trailer opens with Rodrigues, along with Adam Driver's Father Garrpe, being warned by Father Valignano (Ciaran Hinds), "The moment you set foot in that country, you step into high danger." Upon arriving in Japan and being tortured, Rodrigues is seen whispering, "I pray but I'm lost. Am I just praying to silence?"

Based on Shusaku Endo's novel of the same name, "Silence" is set in the seventeenth century. It follows two Jesuit priests who face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and propagate Christianity.

The highly-anticipated movie will get a limited release on December 23, before opening wide in theaters across the U.S. in January 2017. According to The New York Times, it will be screened at the Vatican this month in front of several hundred Jesuits and invited guests.
