In addition to toplining the remake, it has been announced that the Golden Globe Award winner will compose and perform new music for the film.

AceShowbiz - After months of speculations, Lady GaGa has finally been confirmed to star in "A Star Is Born" remake opposite Bradley Cooper. Her character's name is still kept under wraps, but she will star as the ingenue singer whose career rises as quickly as her troubled lover/mentor's career is fading, Deadline has reported.

It will be the Golden Globe Award winner's first starring role in a major studio feature and Cooper's directorial debut. Warner Bros. president of Creative Development and Worldwide Production Greg Silverman has announced that the deal has been closed and in addition to toplining the movie, the "Poker Face" hitmaker will compose and perform new music for the film.

"For those of us lucky enough to watch him work as an actor and producer, it has been clear that Bradley would make this transition to director," says Silverman. "We are honored that he is doing it, here, at his home - Warner Bros. - and with Lady Gaga as a collaborator and co-star. The world is in for a treat as these great artists craft an all new vision of 'A Star is Born'."

Production will begin early next year in California and Cooper will direct the new take from a screenplay written by 2012's "The Lucky One" and 2014's "The Best of Me" scribe Will Fetters. Billy Gerber and Jon Peters are producing along with Cooper and his Joint Effort partner Todd Phillips. Basil Iwanyk is executive producing.

The remake will be based on the 1973 film directed by William A. Wellman and starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. It centers on a troubled movie star who helps an aspiring young actress find fame.
