AceShowbiz - Lionsgate has released an intense trailer for Mel Gibson's "Hacksaw Ridge" starring Andrew Garfield in the lead role. The first trailer introduces Garfield's Desmond Doss, an army medic who saves 75 men without firing a gun and is the first conscientious objector to ever win the Medal of Honor.

The video shows Doss arguing with his father (Hugo Weaving), "While everybody else is taking life, I'm gonna be saving it." He is the only American soldier to serve on the front lines in World War II without a weapon. "I'm sorry sergeant, I can't touch gun," Doss objects as his sergeant shows a personal gift [weapon] from the United States government designed to bring death to the enemy.

His fellow soldier calls him "Doss the coward" because of his beliefs to not taking one's life. Several scenes also show Doss accompanying his unit on the front lines and saving countless lives with his selfless acts of heroism despite being wounded multiple times.

"Hacksaw Ridge" follows Desmond T. Doss, a soldier who is ostracized for his beliefs and becomes a medic in the U.S. Army because he refuses to kill or carry a weapon. As an army medic, Doss single-handedly evacuates the wounded near enemy lines, braves fire while tending to soldiers and is wounded by a grenade. He saves 75 men without firing a gun and is the first conscientious objector to ever win the Medal of Honor.

Gibson directed the World War II film from a screenplay written by Robert Schenkkan and Randall Wallace. Brian Oliver produced along with Bill Mechanic, Terry Benedict, Steve Longi and Gregory Crosby. Also starring Teresa Palmer, Vince Vaughn, Sam Worthington, Rachel Griffiths and Luke Bracey, the film is set for a November 4 release in the U.S.
