'Star Trek Beyond': Which Alien Character Is Inspired by Jennifer Lawrence?
Movie

Screenwriter Simon Pegg reveals that he and Doug Jung took inspiration for Sofia Boutella's Jaylah from Lawrence's 'Winter's Bone' character.

AceShowbiz - "Star Trek Beyond" is somehow related to Jennifer Lawrence. The Oscar-winning actress has inspired a new alien character in the follow-up to 2013's "Star Trek Into Darkness". Actor and screenwriter Simon Pegg revealed this during a press conference for the upcoming movie.

The said character inspired by Lawrence is Jaylah, who is portrayed by Sofia Boutella. The white-skinned female alien is more or less a loner, fending for herself and trying to scrape together a living until she bumps into the crew of the USS Enterprise.

Pegg said he and co-writer Doug Jung took inspiration from Lawrence's "Winter's Bone" character, a young woman who is forced to fend for herself and her siblings while navigating the criminal underworld of rural Kentucky.

During the writing, the duo struggled to name the character, so they started calling the character "Jennifer Lawrence in 'Winter's Bone'." Pegg shared, "Then we started calling her J. Law, and that became Jaylah."

Justin Lin serves behind the lens for "Star Trek Beyond", which is due out in the U.S. on July 22. In addition to Pegg, the returning stars include Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho and the late Anton Yelchin. Idris Elba plays the villainous Krall.

While "Beyond" has yet to open in theaters, the fourth film has been planned. Producer J.J. Abrams said when asked about the possibility of making another installment of the franchise, "Yes, and there's something that hopefully we're figurative minutes away from talking about. But the answer is 100 percent yes, and it's incredibly exciting."

Reporter Scott Mantz later revealed that during their interview, Abrams also confirmed the script had been finished and Chris Hemsworth would return as George Kirk, Captain Kirk's father, in the fourth movie.
