The shooting happened on Thursday outside his Tras Bambalinas School on Chicago's southwest side. Alejandro was in a car when someone walked up, showed him a gun and told him to get out. When he wouldn't get out of the vehicle, the gunman fired multiple shots, hitting him in the head.

Alejandro's friends held a vigil and memorial for the singer at his studio in Chicago on Saturday evening.

The attack happened a little over a week after the killing of another "The Voice" alum Christina Grimmie. Christina died after being shot following a concert in Orlando on June 10. The gunman then killed himself.
