AceShowbiz - %cLady GaGa% is in talks to star opposite %cBradley Cooper% in the remake of "A Star Is Born", which also marks his directorial debut. Deadline reported that the singer/actress had tested for a role in the movie and Warner Bros. execs were impressed by the result.
Cooper was reportedly courting GaGa for the film in May when they were caught by paparazzi dining in an Italian restaurant. If the deal is closed, the film will mark her first leading role in big screen after winning a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in Miniseries or Television Film for her role on Ryan Murphy's "American Horror Story: Hotel" and getting an Oscar nomination for co-writing an original song titled "Til It Happens to You" for documentary "The Hunting Ground".
Warner Bros. originally tapped "American Sniper" director %cClint Eastwood% to helm the project in 2011. At that time, %cBeyonce Knowles% was set to star in the project, but she dropped out due to scheduling issue and later Eastwood also exited the project to work on "Jersey Boys". The project was back on track after Cooper's on board to direct.
The remake will be based on the 1973 film directed by William A. Wellman and starring %cJanet Gaynor% and %cFredric March%. It centers on a troubled movie star who helps an aspiring young actress find fame. The original movie was subsequently remade in 1954 by director George Cukor, with %cJudy Garland% and %cJames Mason% in the cast. Another remake by director Frank Pierson was released in 1976, starring %cBarbra Streisand% and %cKris Kristofferson%.
