AceShowbiz - The cast of "Hamilton" kindly gave fans desperate to score tickets to the show a taste of their hit musical when they brought it to the 2016 Tony Awards. %cLin-Manuel Miranda% and Co. appeared on the Beacon Theater in New York on Sunday night, June 12 to perform some of their songs for the crowd at the venue as well as millions at home.
President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama introduced the performance via a video. The commander-in-chief recalled how Miranda visited the White House years ago to perform what would eventually be the opening number of "Hamilton". "I must admit, we laughed. But who's laughing now?" he said.
Following another introduction from rapper %cCommon%, the cast that included Miranda and %cLeslie Odom Jr.% launched into a performance of "History Has Its Eyes on You". They also did "Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down)", which excluded prop muskets to respect the victims of Orlando mass shooting.
"Hamilton" was the biggest winner that night, taking home a total of 11 awards including Best Musical, Best Original Score for Miranda and Best Leading Actor in a Musical for co-star Odom.
Also highlighting the 2016 Tonys were the cast members of "Waitress". They started with the upbeat "Opening Up" before %cSara Bareilles% and %cJessie Mueller% slowed things down with the heartfelt ballad "She Used to Be Mine".
Others becoming parts of the event airing on CBS included the cast of "The Color Purple", "School of Rock-The Musical" and "She Loves Me".
