The third and fourth seasons will cover the next books in Diana Gabaldon's 'Outlander' novel series, 'Voyager' and 'Drums of Autumn'.

AceShowbiz - Starz wants more "Outlander". The cable channel has renewed the time travel drama series for two more seasons, with the third season slated to debut in April 2017. It's also confirmed that the third installment will cover the third book in Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" book series, "Voyager", and the fourth season will be based on "Drums of Autumn".

" 'Outlander' is like nothing seen before on television," said Starz CEO Chris Albrecht in a statement released on Wednesday, June 1. "From its depiction of a truly powerful female lead character, to the devastating decimation of the Highlander way of life, to what is a rarely seen genuine and timeless love story, it is a show that not only transports the viewer, but inspires the passion and admiration of its fans."

He continued, "On this 25th anniversary of the publication of the first book in the U.S., we are thrilled and honored to be able to continue the story that began with author Diana Gabaldon, and is brought to life by the incredibly talented Ronald D. Moore. There are no better storytellers for 'Outlander' than this team, both in front and behind the camera."

The two-season renewal is no surprise, considering the show's ratings. The second season premiere drew 1.46 million viewers, twice than the audience who watched the first season premiere. The show is also loved by critics, scoring 85 out of 100 at review aggregator Metacritic.

The second season, which consists of 16 episodes, is airing Saturdays at 9/8c on Starz.
