Live-Action 'Peter Pan' in Development With 'Pete's Dragon' Team

The classic tale will be the latest to get a live-action treatment from Disney after the success of 'Cinderella', 'Maleficent' and more.

AceShowbiz - There have been many screen adaptations of "Peter Pan", the latest being Warner Bros.' "Pan" which not only was panned by critics but also failed at the box office. Yet, there's one more attempt to develop a live-action film based on the classic tale "Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up" by J.M. Barries.

The guys behind Disney's "Pete's Dragon", David Lowery, Toby Halbrooks and James Whitaker, are backing this Peter Pan project. Lowery is on board to direct and co-write the script with Halbrooks. Whitaker is producing. There are no other details about the project because it's in the early stages of development.

Disney itself had developed a successful animation in 1953. Other incarnations of the character were Steven Spielberg's "Hook" in 1991, P.J. Hogan's "Peter Pan" in 2003, and Joe Wright's "Pan" in 2015.

Peter Pan (2018) is the latest attempt from Disney to adapt such genre into its classics. The live-action versions of "Cinderella", "Maleficent" and "Alice in Wonderland" proved to be successful at the box office. The Mouse House is also applying it next to "Beauty and the Beast (2017)", "Dumbo", "Mulan" and "Tink".
