According to a source, the country crooner wanted a 'Gwen-free zone' because he felt 'smothered' by her.

AceShowbiz - Despite his warm relationship with Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton reportedly felt "smothered" by the "Hollaback Girl" singer and he wanted a Gwen-free zone in his life. According to Celeb Dirty Laundry, Blake was "thrilled" Gwen would not return to "The Voice" as a full-time coach next season, so he could get freedom.
"It looks like the country music singer might be feeling a bit smothered, and wants at least one part of his life to be a Gwen-Free zone," the news outlet stated. The source later claimed that Gwen didn't return to the singing contest because Blake didn't want it. "Blake Shelton has a lot of pull on 'The Voice' If he really wanted Gwen Stefani to have a chair - she would have," the source noted, adding that Blake had "had enough of sharing 'The Voice' with his girlfriend Gwen."
However, Gossip Cop has debunked the rumor, saying the information is totally untrue and they're still very much in love with each other. Earlier this month, Blake and Gwen enjoyed their time together with her son Apollo as they went hiking in Oklahoma. During the outdoor activity, Blake and Apollo bonded together as they wore matching jackets and jeans.
