The 'Pirates of the Caribbean' actress is reportedly in early talks to star in the biopic directed by Barbra Streisand.

AceShowbiz - Keira Knightley is in early talks to star as Russian empress "Catherine the Great" in a biopic directed by Barbra Streisand, The Wrap reports. The script was written by Kristina Lauren Anderson and topped the 2014 Black List for best unproduced screenplays.

The biopic will follow young Catherine, who was trapped in an abusive marriage with the heir of the Russian throne. Barbra will direct the project for producer Gil Netter's Netter Productions. Representatives for Keira nad Netter Productions haven't commented on the report yet.

Keira won two Oscar nominations thanks to her work in "The Imitation Game" and "Pride & Prejudice". The British actress was last seen in "Everest" along with Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly and Sam Worthington.

She will soon start filming her upcoming movie "Collateral Beauty" with Will Smith and is set to star as French novelist Colette in a film from "Still Alice" director Wash Westmoreland.

Barbra, meanwhile, won a Golden Globe for directing "Yentl" and has two Oscars of her own. She has received a total of 14 Oscar nominations.
