Artist of the Week: Bryson Tiller
Music

After passing on offer to sign with Drake's OVO Sound, the Louisville, Kentucky singer released his debut album 'T R A P S O U L' via major label RCA.

AceShowbiz - A little over a year ago, Bryson Tiller was an aspiring singer spending his days in his living room studio composing his own music. After uploading the song "Don't" on SoudCloud back in October 2014, he quickly rose to stardom and found himself signed to major label RCA under which he released his debut album "T R A P S O U L" in October 2015.

Upon its arrival, the LP could only reach No. 11 on Billboard 200. However, it has been getting new peaks on the chart in the past few weeks. Earlier this month, it broke into the top 10 and bowed at No. 8 in mid-January.

Tiller, a Louisville, Kentucky native, also partly owes his success to Drake who helped him reach a wider audience when they were pictured together last year. After the photo of them landed online via Instagram, rumors began swirling that the Canadian rapper was about to sign Tiller to his OVO Sound.

Turns out, Drizzy did consider signing the 23-year-old, who ended up passing on the offer and joining RCA instead. Explaining his decision in an interview a few months ago, he said, "It was hard for me."

"There was a lot of times where I really got discouraged and was just like, 'Man, this ain't gonna work. I don't even wanna be an artist,' just thinking negative things. I'm a real pessimistic person at times. So I just started thinking, 'I need to sign to OVO or else I'm not gonna be anybody,' " he continued.

"That was one of the biggest decisions I ever had to make in my life. I'm super naive when it comes to making business decisions. I signed to two independent labels before and neither of them worked out. This time, I had a whole team... We talked to 40 [Noah Shebib] about it and even 40 was like, 'This is not a bad deal from RCA' so we just did it," he shared.
