'I grew up watching 'Rocky Horror' but could never imagine that I would be part of this new vision,' says the 'American Idol' alum of landing the role.

AceShowbiz - Adam Lambert has signed up for FOX's "The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event". The former "American Idol" runner-up is joining the cast of the remake to the 1975 musical film to play Eddie, "the rock-n-roll loving, ex-delivery boy, who emerges at Dr. Frank-N-Furter's on a motorcycle and crashes the party." Meat Loaf played the character in the original movie.

"I grew up watching 'Rocky Horror', but could never imagine that I would be part of this new vision," says Lambert. " 'Rocky Horror' always made me feel like it was okay to celebrate my weirdness. Hallelujah, bless my soul! I love that old time rock-n-roll!"

Lambert was initially considered to play Dr. Frank-N-Furter, but the role eventually went to "Orange Is the New Black" actress Laverne Cox. This is not the first acting gig for Lambert. The "For Your Entertainment" singer had a recurring role as Elliot "Starchild" Gilbert on "Glee".

"The Rocky Horror Picture Show" remake also stars Victoria Justice and Ryan McCartan as lost lovers Janet Weiss and Brad Majors respectively. The story follows the newlywed couple who stumbles upon the creepy mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Directed by Kenny Ortega, it is scheduled to premiere this fall.
