'The Expanse' Renewed for Season 2 at Syfy

Thirteen episodes in the series' sophomore run are expected to air on the network in early 2017.

AceShowbiz - "The Expanse" is just four episodes into season 1, but Syfy has renewed the critically-acclaimed series for a second season. Produced by Alcon Television Group, the drama is expected to air 13 new episodes from its sophomore run in early 2017.

" 'The Expanse' is firing on all cylinders creatively, building a passionate fan base among viewers and critics alike, and delivering on Syfy's promise of smart, provocative science fiction entertainment. We can't wait to see where the story takes us in season two," said Dave Howe, president of Syfy and Chiller.

Based on a series of novels by writing team Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, released under the pseudonym James S.A. Corey, the show is set two hundred years in the future and follows a hardened detective (Thomas Jane) and a rogue ship's captain (Steven Strait) whose unlikely alliance may end up exposing the greatest conspiracy in human history.

"The Expanse" currently airs on Syfy Tuesdays at 10:00 P.M. ET/PT. It's scheduled to return with the fifth episode in its 10-episode first season this Tuesday, January 5.
