Lionsgate Pushes Back 'Power Rangers' and 'The Divergent Series: Ascendant'
Movie

'Power Rangers' has been pushed back from January 13 to March 14, 2017 while the final 'Divergent' movie has been moved to June 9, 2017.

AceShowbiz - Lionsgate has shifted release dates for two of its highly-anticipated movies "Power Rangers" and "The Divergent Series: Ascendant". The studio has pushed back the former by two months from January 13 to March 14, 2017, the date previously occupied by "Ascendant".

The studio made the decision reportedly to avoid a competitive weekend as Sony's "The Dark Tower, Paramount's "Friday the 13th (2017)", Warner Bros.' "Geostorm", 20th Century Fox's and Paramount's "Monster Trucks" are all slated for January 13, 2017 release. On the new release date, the movie, which stars Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger, Becky G as the Yellow Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger and Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, will only compete against "The Mummy".

"Power Rangers" is based on '90s TV series "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" in which a group of ordinary high school kids, who possess extraterrestrial powers, join forces to save the world, with the aid of giant mechanical vehicles known as Zords.

As for the fourth chapter of the "Divergent" movie franchise, it has been pushed back to a summer release on June 9, 2017, facing off against "World War Z 2". Based on Veronica Roth's New York Times best-seller of the same name, "Ascendant" is directed by Robert Schwentke with a script written by Noah Oppenheim and Adam Cooper. Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, Naomi Watts, Jeff Daniels and Zoe Kravitz are back to reprise their respective roles.
