See Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe for the First Time in 'The Nice Guys'
Movie

The first official photo of Shane Black's drama thriller features Gosling and Crowe's characters sitting next to each other.

AceShowbiz - Warner Bros. has released the first official image for Shane Black's drama thriller "The Nice Guys". Making its way out via PEOPLE, the photo gives a first look at Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, who play "fun and crazy" characters.

Gosling looks dapper wearing a brown suit over a white shirt with a gold tie. Crowe is seen sitting next to Gosling while wearing a blue suit.

The movie is set in 1970s Los Angeles and follows a down-on-his luck detective, Holland March (Gosling), who teams up with Jackson Healy (Crowe) to solve the case of a missing girl and death of a porn star - an investigation that uncovers a surprising conspiracy with major ramifications for those in the highest positions of power.

Black explained that the movie would involve action and comedy. He described the film's tone as "half whimsical private-eye movie" and "spiritual sequel" to his 2005 directorial debut "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang". He also praised the performances of Gosling and Crowe, saying that both of them were "extremely funny."

"Whether this thing is a comedy with action or a thriller with jokes, one thing that's very clear is these two are extremely funny. People will enjoy seeing the two of them," Black said.

"It is an R-rated film and it's a caper. It's a little fast, a little funny and a little rough in places, kind of coarse," Black added. "These guys are working-class dudes, they're not really sophisticated private detectives, so it's a chance to do the kind of thriller I don't see too much of anymore."

"The Nice Guys" will open in U.S. theaters on May 20, 2016.
